What Power Stones are

Power Stones are what you unlock a locked chapter with. You can earn them or buy them, and both kinds open the same chapters.

Your balance is really three pots, and the app shows them as one number because you rarely need to care which is which:

• Daily stones — earned from checking in and from watching adverts. These expire at midnight UK time, so they are meant to be spent the day you get them.
• Gift stones — given by us: a welcome, an apology, a prize.
• Stones you paid for — bought in the app or on the website. These never expire.

When you unlock a chapter we always spend the pot that is about to expire first: daily, then gift, then the ones you paid for. You cannot lose stones you bought because you forgot to use free ones.

There is one other difference. Only stones you paid for count towards your favourite author's earnings, which is why buying is the thing that actually supports a writer.
