Why some chapters are locked

Some books open with a run of free chapters. You do not need an account, stones or the app to read those — they are free on the web as well.

After that, chapters unlock with stones. The price depends on how long the chapter is, and the app shows it before you spend anything.

The newest chapters of a book that is still being written are held back a little longer than the rest. That is deliberate: it is what makes writing a series worth an author's time, and it is the same on every book rather than something we decide case by case.

If you would rather not spend, see waiting instead of paying and free stones every day.
