The Luna They Humiliated

They did not exile me. That is the part people get wrong when they tell it.

They stood me up in front of the entire pack, read out the reason I was unfit, took the title off me, and then sent me home to the same house, to the same man, to the same bed, and told me supper was at seven.

I have been the Luna of this valley for eleven years. By nine o'clock that night I was a woman with a job nobody could name.
