The Luna’s Forbidden Mark

Two nights before Wren Talbot is due to become luna of the Wallowa pack, she wakes up with a mate mark on her neck.

It isn't from Garrett Voss, the Alpha she's meant to marry. She doesn't know who it's from. All she knows is the pattern, and every wolf in the valley was raised to fear it. It belongs to the Calders, the outlaw bloodline Garrett's father drove out of these mountains when Garrett was a boy. Pack law is clear on this: any wolf who carries a Calder mark is cast out, and the man who gave it is put to death.

Garrett sees it and doesn't cast her out. He hides it under a high collar and goes ahead with the ceremony, because he needs her father's land more than he needs her. From that night on, Wren is his luna and also the secret he can use against her.

Then he gives the order to find the man who marked her.

He gives that job to Rhett Calder, the quiet tracker who has served the pack for six years under a borrowed name. Under the ink on Rhett's arm is a mark of his own, and it matches Wren's.

Neither of them gave the other a mark. The bond did it on its own, in the spring flood, the night Wren pulled a half-drowned stranger out of the river and never learned who he was.

Now they hunt themselves side by side. The marks burn every time they stand too close, and every clue they find points back to the night the Calders were driven out. If the pack finds Rhett first, he dies. If they find the truth first, Garrett loses everything his family stole.

Wren has one choice left: the crown she married into, or the man the law says she must hand over to die.
