Divorce for Love

Clara Hale has been in love with Oliver Ashcombe since the day she met him. He was distant, principled and impossibly posh, the second son of one of England’s oldest families. At twenty she chased him, married him and gave him everything: three children, a seat on the board of the family firm, and a life arranged entirely around his.

Eight years later she still loves him to bits. He doesn’t love her.

So, over dinner behind the gold curtains of a Mayfair restaurant, Clara asks for a break. Oliver, cool as ever, offers her a divorce instead.

She takes it, and she has a plan. She’ll give up her job and her title and become the soft, artistic, effortless sort of woman he has always seemed to admire. She’ll make Oliver Ashcombe notice her at last.

But a brilliant pianist who has loved her since childhood comes back into her life. A polished new assistant is laying out Oliver’s suits. And her very proper, very controlled ex-husband starts turning up everywhere she goes. Nothing goes to plan. Clara understands less and less of what’s going on in his head, and Oliver is beginning to look like a man who has seen straight through her.
