A Human for the Alpha

Beatriz is a ward nurse with a three-year-old daughter, a husband on the police force, and no idea what is hiding in the mountains above her town. Her marriage looks fine from the outside. Inside it, every week gives her a new reason to be careful, and she has become expert at being careful.

Then she meets Afonso Lobo, a quiet city solicitor who is also the Alpha of an old mountain pack. He knows her scent and the pull of the bond at once. A human mate is forbidden in his family's laws, and his own father, the old Alpha, did not survive the last time the pack bent that rule. Afonso is a patient man by nature. He does not ask Beatriz for anything. He simply keeps turning up when she needs a lawyer, a lift, or someone to sit at the edge of a room and say nothing.

As her husband's control tightens, the evidence she needs becomes harder to gather. Her husband's colleague passes information she should never have seen, a tracker appears on her car, and a nursery pickup goes wrong. At the same time, the pack's Council sees a weakness it can use. Afonso's mother has secrets of her own, the family's buried Deeds say more than anyone admits, and a hunt, a trial and a night in the snow are all coming. If Beatriz wants to keep her daughter, her job and her life, she will have to choose between the safety of a quiet escape and the dangerous place at Afonso's side.
